Clockwork Records – Hastings-On-Hudson Westchester New York
Open – 24 Main St., Hastings-On-Hudson, New York  10706

Not all record stores are dying.  Clockwork Records is a new store that had opened about 3 years ago (2013) when I first wrote this post.  On my first visit, I didn’t have time to give it a proper dig, but they had plenty of records, including picture sleeve 45s, packed into a store featuring a Clockwork Orange motif. You remember the futuristic record store scene in that movie, don’t you?  By our Beethoven loving hero?  Michael James, the store’s owner, is a nice guy pictured below.  In the immortal words of Arnold “I’ll be back.”

Since I originally wrote this post, I have been back to Clockwork Records several times.  Michael is a fan of punk, including the hardcore and skate punk that came out of Southern California in the early 1980s.  (Think the Descendents).  Last time I was there he had a great compilation – Rodney on the ROQ Vol 1 which he happily played and I happily bought.

He has records of all genres, including blues and jazz as well as rock and punk, which you can try before you buy.  Have picked up quite a few nice records reasonably priced.

Here’s an article that appeared in Rivertowns Daily Voice with another picture of the store’s owner (this time the front of his face) titled Clockwork Records Finds Vinyl Niche In Hastings in 2013 at its first address.
And another, from Westchester Magazine from 2014  Hasting-On-Hudson’s Clockwork Records Is Bringing The Record Store Back For An Encore  which interviews store owner Mike James about his decision to open a record store in 2013.
Here’s Rodney on the ROQ, Vol. 1.
This comp was put together by famed KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, who championed punk in the late 70s and early 80s.  His comps (there are three of them) also feature new wave and power pop.  Some of these songs were featured for the first time on vinyl on his comps.
One of my favorites is the Adolescents – Amoeba.  For your listening pleasure …..

For fun, here’s the record store of the future, as envisioned by Stanley Kubrick in A Clockwork Orange.
