Today’s Song of the Day is 1962’s Goo Goo Muck, by Ronnie Cook and the Gaylads. Rockabilly with a horror story twist, it was later covered by the Cramps, who added a surf reverb feel.

When the sun goes down, and the moon comes up
I turn into a teenage goo goo muck
I cruise through the city and I roam the street
Looking for something that is nice to eat

We offer both versions, so you can choose your favorite.

First up is the original by Ronnie Cook. This has been set to clips of a great old horror movie, The Old Dark House from 1932, starring Boris Karloff, Meylvn Douglas, Charles Laughton and Raymond Massey, among others. Love this video.

And next up is the Cramps’ 1984 cover from their compilation album Bad Music for Bad People.

And here’s a live version of the band doing it in 1981.
