Record Sevilla Seville Spain store front

Record Sevilla, C. Amor de Dios, 17, Casco Antiguo, 41002 Sevilla, Spain – Open

Record Sevilla packs a wide array of genres in its smallish shop. Offerings span classic rock, garage, psych, alternative, grunge, heavy metal and progressive, among others. Both new and used vinyl LPs are offered for sale, as well as cds and cassettes. The store also has a nice collection of picture sleeve 45s and a separate section for bands from Spain. All records were reasonably priced. In addition, the store sells band t-shirts and mugs.

For my money, it is one of Seville’s best.

Founded in 1984 (actually 1982) the store has never strayed far from its roots on C. Amor de Dios. For a long time it could be found at no. 27. When that lease ran out, it moved down the block to its present location at 17 C. Amor de Dios.

Here is Luis holding up some of my purchases. The album on the counter is a reissue of the Mops – Psychedelic Sounds in Japan. From 1968, it mixes originals like I Am Just A Mops with covers of ’60s hits sung in English – the Doors Light My Fire – and Japanese language originals including Kienai Omoi. Psych, garage, group sounds. First presses with obi are collectors items, have sold for over $1000 on Discogs. The 60s didn’t just happen in the US and England, and if you feel like leaving those friendly shores, this is a good place to start.
On the wall behind Luis is a copy of the Barracudas – I Wish It Was 1965 Again. The Barracudas were a surf/garage revival band that played in the 80s. Give a listen to Summer Fun to see what they were about at their best. And Luis saw them live. A very pleasant guy, by the way.

Video Store Tours

This YouTube short gives a quick tour of the store and what it has to offer. The band playing in the background is All La Glory of which the store’s owner is a member. They are playing Senales from their 2019 album Disco Fantasma. Sounds like Power Pop to me. You? At the end you get to see the store bag you’ll get if you buy something.

Here’s a video tour of several record stores, with interviews of their owners/store clerks. The segment on Record Sevilla starts at 12:42 and includes an interview with store clerk Luis.

Finally, we have a third YouTube video. From Drprogensteinphp, and first posted in 2019, the good Doctor flips thru a bunch of Record Sevilla’s offerings. This will give you a better idea of what they have for sale, as he has better knowledge of their metal and progressive offering than I do. The video covers multiple stores. The segement on Record Sevilla starts at 2:41 and continues thru 10:54

What The Press Is Saying

Published in La Voz del Sur.es (the Voice of the South) on February 27, 2021, Record Sevilla, Because Music Deserves It interviews store owner Juano Azgara about the store, its history and surviving the Covid pandemic. Juano, also a musician in the band All La Glory, inherited the store from his late father, who was one of its founders. The article was published in Spanish, but Google will happily translate it to English if you need.

Vinyl Tourist

For those of you, like me, who are vinyl tourists, Sevilla offers three record stores all within easy walking distance of each other on C. Amor de Dios. After you visit Record Sevilla, a short walk down the block will take you to Disco Latimore – rated one of the best record stores in Spain. I visited, and you should too. It’s located at 17 C. Amor de Dios. Head in the other direction, and you will find Totem Tanaz, at 66 C. Amor de Dios. Opened in 1994, it specializes in dance music and dj equipment. Each are in Seville’s old town, where you will be going, and walking around, if you’re a tourist.

For my money, the best record store t-shirt belonged to Record Sevilla. And what vinyl tourist can leave without a souvenier.

Cool Vinyl Bought There

When in Spain …. Record Sevilla had a great collection of 45s from the 60s with picture sleeves. I went looking for songs sung in Spanish that I might not see in the States, and purchased Los Bravos – Los Chicos Con Las Chicas. From the 1967 movie of the same name, this is pure 60s pop. I have found that Spanish groups from the 60s, as well as those from South America, routinely had lead and backup singers who could really sing. That is certainly the case here, with lead singer Mike Kennedy ably backed by group harmonies. The video below pictures scenes from the boys in the movie, singing the title song and infiltrating an all girls school with great success. I don’t know that I would recommend the movie, but I liked the song. Los Bravos hailed from Madrid, forming in 1965.

Record Sevilla at old location

I believe this is a photo of Record Sevilla at its old location at 27 C. Amor de Dios. If any one knows for sure, I would appreciate it if you could let me know, thanks.
